The
Archbishop-Metropolitan of the Church…
His Eminence, The Most Reverend Robert Matthew
Gubala, SCR, is the Archbishop-Metropolitan of the Catholic
Apostolic National
Church, and Primate of the United States. In
this ecclesiastical office, he is both the spiritual head of the church in North America, and also, as Primate, sits as our most
senior Bishop. Formerly known as the “Old Catholic Church of the United
States”, the church officially changed its’ name on August 1, 2005,
to the “Catholic Apostolic National Church”, as recognition of its
place within the “Worldwide Communion of Catholic Apostolic National
Churches” (now the WCCAC), and
to more accurately describe the nature and call of our Church. Archbishop
Gubala received the apostolic lineage of “St. Carlos of Brazil” directly from His
Beatitude, Dom Luis Fernando Castillo-Mendez, Patriarch
of the Worldwide Communion of Catholic Apostolic National Churches. The
Patriarch was himself consecrated to the episcopate by “St. Carlos of Brazil”, in life known as Bishop Carlos
Duarte Costa, former Roman Catholic Bishop of Botucatu, Brazil, who left the Roman Catholic
Church and founded the “Igreja Catolica Apostolica Brasileira”
(ICAB). The Archbishop-Metropolitan leads our church’s effort to realize
the dream of St. Carlos here in the United States.
The Archbishop’s Archiepiscopal Seal…
The Archbishop’s
seal is unique, whereas most Episcopal seals show separate left and right side representations,
the Archbishop’s seal shows a solid field of blue, which represents the
vast size and richness of the North American land. The cross behind the Coat of
Arms is, in its’ design, is representative of primacy of authority of the
primatial office.
The archiepiscopal hat, or “galero”
has fifteen tassels on each side, instead of the usual ten for archbishops, and
also is scarlet, indicating the ecclesiastical primacy of his office. The
banner under the crest reads, “Soli Deo Gloria”, which is Latin, and means, “To God
Alone Be The Glory”.
The Catholic Apostolic National Church

the faith of the church to all parts of the world. Our parishes adhere to the
traditional teachings of the church, preferring them over the innovations found
in denominations around the world today. Our charge is the establishment of
parishes and missions worldwide, to serve the Body of Christ.
